Vet visit

The puppies went to the vet yesterday for their first vaccine and microchipping.  Everyone passed their exams with flying colors.  No heart murmurs, hernias and eyes, ears, etc looked great :)  Fecal exam was negative.

Tech preparing the vaccines and microchips ... puppies think she has treats ... which she also does :)

Having fun in the room!

Mr. Red having his heartbeat checked.

Briggs seeing if there are any more treats on the table.

Mr. Blue gets a listen.

Mr. Black getting weighed.

Miss Orange showing off her pretty eyes to Dr. Bennett.

Learning about a leash

I apologize in advance ... I didn't get any pictures or videos :(  I was alone and had 2 puppies out at a time so I had no available hands.
Today I took the puppies out, 2 at a time, and had them on a leash.  One in each hand.  Everyone took turns in pairs going on a little mini, mini walk in our neighborhood.  I had quite a few neighbors come out and greet the puppies ... they are fan favorites! (I had pocket hand sanitizer, in case you were wondering, hehe).  The puppies were apprehensive at first but all warmed up quickly and were bounding along the sidewalk in no time in cute puppy style.  There were periods of resistance, which is quite normal, but I was quite impressed by them.  All of them seem to be outgoing little guys.  Just try to keep up the 3 new places, 3 new people each week.  It will help them maintain their confidence and composure in new situations.  Don't take them to dog parks or daycare until they are done with their immunizations and pet stores are ok before they are done, just carry them in.
As the weather gets nicer, you can take them to outdoor shopping areas, sit outside of a Starbucks, head to the garden section of Lowes or Home Depot ... get creative :)

And time for cute picture of the day:
We want to eat now, even Uncle Dexter says so :)  I placed the bag on the floor and everyone was instantly at it.  They know where the good stuff is! I am sure they would have had the bag open in less than a minute if I had given them the chance!

Naughty dogs

This is a common occurrence after I change out the newspapers in their potty area ...

You can hear the big dogs playing in the background. It was crazy dog hour in my house! I had just taken the puppies outside a little earlier and it started to rain, sigh. No play time in the nice temperature today.

Friday is fun day

The stairs look intimidating ...

This was their first time seeing the stairs going down.  No one really wanted to try.  Now if you have stairs in your house, of course introduce the puppy to them and let them try but don't let them go up and down over and over since it is hard on joints while they are growing.  I encourage you to carry your pup as long as you can pick them up.  Once they are too heavy, of course then they can do them theirselves.

We are on to two pans now.  I split the food evenly and try to get them to go four and four.  They always think the grass is greener in the other pan :P

The puppies are being switched over to Nature's Variety Prairie, Chicken Meal and Brown Rice Medley, Large Breed Puppy.  They were still getting loose with the Holistic Select so I decided to try a different food.  This one can be found at Pet Supplies Plus and Petco, probably elsewhere too.

And sometimes the simplest things make the best toy .. cardboard boxes, plastic bottles ...

Just like any toy, watch your puppy with the plastic bottle and once they manage to pierce it and tear it, throw it away ...
No rope toys!!

We have had alot of rain and although the sun is shining today, it's cold and our backyard has about an inch of standing water in some places.  Hopefully we can get out this weekend, if nothing else, we will hang out in the side yard if it is dry enough :)  They love playing in the house though and it's too funny seeing 8 puppies run around the kitchen.  I will try to remember to get a video of that :)
